7/1 – 7/2 Urban Landscape Planning Bicycle Workshop
Location | 捷運萬隆站MRT Wanlong Station (Exit 2)
Dates | July 1, 10am-6pm, July 2, 1:30pm-9pm
Details | As the fourth design thinking workshop held by City Yeast (都市酵母) and 水越設計 AGUA Design, participants will ride bicycles around town and report back on the sights and sounds they encounter during their ride. The research will feed into the Urban Landscape Project–part of the WDC Taipei 2016’s Open Call program, the findings of which will be exhibited in October at Taipei’s International Design House Exhibition.

7/2 Tapping and Hammering x Creative Reuse Center (Workshop)
Location│Creative Reuse Center at Taiwan Airforce Innovation Base (TAF) (No. 177, Sec. 1, Jianguo S. Rd., Taipei City)
Dates│ July 2 ,10am-12pm
Details | As part of Taipei’s World Industrial Design Day activities, two workshops, open to parents and their children aged 8-12 (25 pairs max), will be held on July 2 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Taiwan Air Force Innovation Base (TAF).
Using waste materials from everyday life, the recycled art workshop shows participants how to turn these materials into fun craft productions through hands-on participation, all the while changing the participant’s preconceptions of trash.

Topic | Spatial Disturbances – Actions for Assembly
Introduction | Assemble is a cross-disciplinary team of artists, architects, and designers who recently won the 2015 Turner Prize with their project “Grandby Four Streets.” The collective work with local residents to inject life and creativity into vacant, unoccupied spaces. Assemble has been invited to Taiwan by local organization Art Happening Production to present and share its fascinating body of case studies.

7/9 Love Regeneration – WDC Open Call Green Ocean Project (Workshop)
Dates and location| July 9, 2016 SanZhi Little Whitehouse (古風小白屋) 10am-6pm
Introduction | Many people have items that no longer work, but that still hold a lot of meaning. In this workshop, REnato Lab, the organizers of the Green Ocean Project, will pair participants–who have been asked to bring along their favorite broken items–with skilled tradesmen in the hopes of repairing or repurposing them.

7/9 – 8/14 Creative Roughness: Contemporary Israeli Design (Exhibition)
Dates and location | July 9, 2016-August 14 FREE ADMISSION Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (Warehouse No.2)
Introduction | “Creative Roughness – Contemporary Israeli Design” opens July 9 and will run though until August 14. Curated by Alon Razgour, the exhibition puts on display almost 300 design works from 45 contemporary Israeli designers–representations of the modern Israeli culture, which is influenced by its identity as a melting pot for various nationalities and ethnicities.

7/15 – The Food Project – Street Food Evolution – Bompas & Parr and the Sausage Social (Interactive Exhibition)
Dates and location | Concept Design Room, Taiwan Design Center 3 Sessions – 11am-6pm
Introduction |The Food Project by Alice Wang Design, part of the WDC Open Call program, have invited UK-based Bompas & Parr to host a event in Taipei. The result? Taiwan’s first ever Sausage Social. Food designers Bompas & Parr are highly skilled in combining food, imagination, and humor with the drama of performance. They believe that a good dining experience is found not only in taste, but also through interactive experience–color, smell, taste, sound, and video all contribute to this exciting exploration of an everyday food.

7/17 The Food Project – Big Bento Redo – Bompas & Parr – Taste of Color
Dates and location | Concept Design Room, Taiwan Design Center 12pm-2pm
Introduction |Well loved in Taiwan, the bento box, or bian dang (便當) in Chinese, is a lunchtime classic (or dinner classic if you are working late at the office). Referencing studies of the ways in which color can impact perceptions of food, UK design duo Bompas & Parr will attempt to create a healthier and heartier bian dang, one that tempts your tastebuds using color. Get your stomachs ready!

7/17 The Food Project – Big Bento Redo – Biteology – The Rebirth of Fruits and Vegetables
Dates and location | Concept Design Room, Taiwan Design Center 2pm-4pm
Introduction |Bring your lunch boxes and cutlery! Alice Wang Design has teamed up with Taipei restaurant Biteology to present the Rebirth of Fruits and Vegetables (蔬果重生食堂). There are numerous reasons why farmed food is thrown away–it is too small, too ugly, too irregular, or there is too much of it. The farmers from Yunlin County (雲林縣) will donate a days worth of fruit and vegetables destined for the dustbin, and Biteology will repurpose them into this food experiment. Let’s see how many people can be fed with this so-called waste food!

7/29 – 7/31 The Food Project – Street Food Evolution – Martí Guixé 閃點車輪餅 Flashpoint Pie (Interactive Workshop)
Dates and location | Concept Design Room, Taiwan Design Center 7/29, sold out 7/30, 2pm-4pm 7/31, 2pm-4pm
Introduction |Spanish food designer Martí Guixé has chosen the Taiwan’s favorite street-side sweet treat to get the creative juices flowing. In this interactive workshop, participants can dabble in “food design” to create their own version of the traditional “wheel pie,” while learning about theories of personal taste based on geographical location and culture.
