Come Experience a Taste of Taiwan and Taipei Design Through Tea Culture

Taiwan’s four great tea varietals, calligraphy works from Master Dong Yang-zi, and works by famous illustrator Jimmy Liao are combined for an eclectic, whimsical style steeped in substantial cultural roots at the 2014 Tokyo Designers Week Taipei pavilion!

The Tokyo Designers Week appearance follows a successful foray by the Taipei municipal government at the Design EX event in Sydney this year. The internationally-renowned Design week, commonly regarded as one of the top three influential design events in the world, will run from 25 October to 3 November 2014. The Taipei delegation is led by Taipei City Government, and Chen Wenlong, CEO of the Taiwan Design Center, with the aim to promote World Design Capital Taipei 2016. The delegation is expected to reap benefits in terms of Taiwan-Japan design exchange as well as benefit Taiwan’s cultural tourism.

The exhibition area, decked out in purple, the official color for World Design Capital Taipei 2016, will feature works by Taiwan master calligrapher Dong Yang-zi and renowned illustrator Jimmy Liao. In addition, Taiwan’s four famous tea varietals – Sun Moon Lake Black Tea, Alishan High-Mountain Tea, Wenshan Pouchong Tea and Dongding Oolong Tea – will also be on offer to visitors as they take in the culture of Taiwan and Taiwanese design. Apart from participating in the Tokyo Designers Week, the Taipei city government will also hold “Taipei Night” for designers on 27 October. Japanese Institute of Design Promotion, SunnyHills at Minato-Aoyama, and Taiwan Designers Week are expected to attend the event, where they would exchange information and ideas on subjects such as new designs from both Taiwan and Japan, and the spirit of branding in the Japanese context. We believe that a friendly rivalry will provide inspiration to both Taiwanese and Japanese designers at this event!
